Tom has been speaking to to Cosmin Gherghe, an aspiring Software Developer interested in a career within HealthTech. He tells us exactly why below.
What are your thoughts on HealthTech and why is it appealing to join a company in this sector?
Healthtech is now one of the biggest sub-set of the UK tech sector. I see this opportunity as a way to contribute to a forward-thinking industry that saves and enhances lives. I feel as a developer we can enhance digital communication and tools across the sector to have a positive impact on how quickly digital healthcare becomes part of the healthcare system in the next few years. It is appealing to profoundly alter the way we care for people and make significant advances in medicine.
How do you think your development skills would be of use, and therefore what gives you the most satisfaction in your job?
I believe the health care sector will need engineers and developers to optimise and expand their services in order to serve the most number of people and I would like to use my development skills to do so. Having the job that I would take if I didn’t need a job and doing what I love, would make me feel very, very lucky.
How do you see yourself progressing in your career? What are your main career goals?
Over the next few years, I want to explore and develop skills so that I will become a good senior developer. In five years, I want to have gained experience in leading projects. I will be looking for opportunities to expand my responsibilities to work towards my goal.
What do you think about working remotely with occasional visits to the office compared to full time office-based work?
I live alone and working from home makes me feel that I am more productive. But, for some situations it is good to have face-to-face connection. Studies show that most remote workers on average are more productive, more innovative and more engaged. In the workplace, we have more impromptu interactions and a stronger cultural connection, all of which make collaboration easier.
